Sodding
Sod consists of grass and grass roots in a thin layer of soil that is removed from the area in strips. It is rolled and transported to the area to be sodded.
Choosing the Grass Type
When deciding which grass to plant in a certain area, the most important factors to consider are the climate conditions, such as the temperature of the area and the available moisture.
Lawns are a major part of most residential home landscapes. An elegant lawn enhances the appeal and beauty of the landscape. The use of lawns for sports activities offers an opportunity for fun and relaxation. Lawns provide an excellent ground cover to help to control erosion while allowing the movement of air and water to roots of trees and shrubs in the soil below.
Successful establishment of a lawn involves several techniques: use of quality topsoil to ensure optimum growth of the turf; proper grading to provide correct drainage for movement of the water into the lawn; and seedbed preparation with addition of organic matter and fertilizer. Several ways to start a lawn are seeding, sodding, stolonizing, or sprigging. It is important to select the correct grass type for a particular area in the continental United States.
